چکیده

Fundamental theory on battery-powered cyberphysical systems (CPS) calls for dynamic models that are able to describe and predict the status of processors and batteries at any given time. We believe that the idealized system of single processor powered by single battery (SPSB) can be viewed as a generic case for the modeling effort. This paper introduces a dynamic model for multiple aperiodic tasks on a SPSB system under a scheduling algorithm that resembles the rate monotonic scheduling (RMS) within finite time windows. The model contains two major modules. The first module is an online battery capacity model based on the Rakhmatov-Vrudhula-Wallach (RVW) model. This module provides predictions of remaining battery capacity based on the knowledge of the battery discharging current. The second module is a dynamical scheduling model that can predict the scheduled behavior of tasks within any finite time window, without the need to store all past information about each task before the starting time of the finite time window. The module provides a complete analytical description of the relationship among tasks and it delineates all possible modes of the processor utilization as square-wave functions of time. The two modules i.e. the scheduling model and the battery model are integrated to obtain a hybrid scheduling model that describes the dynamic behaviors of the SPSB system. Our effort may have demonstrated that through dynamic modeling, different components of CPS may be integrated under a unified theoretical framework centered around hybrid systems theory.

Design methodology for battery powered embedded systems - In safety critical application

Abstract Battery powered embedded system can be considered as a power aware system for a safety critical application. There is a need of saving the battery power for such power aware system so that it can be used more efficiently, particularly in safety critical applications. Present paper describes power optimization procedure using real time scheduling technique having a specific dead line gu...

A Score Function for Optimizing the Cycle-Life of Battery-Powered Embedded Systems

An ever increasing share of embedded systems is powered by rechargeable batteries. These batteries deteriorate with the number of charge/discharge cycles they are subjected to, the so-called cycle life. In this paper, we propose the wear score function to compare and evaluate the relative impact of usage (charge and discharge) profiles on cycle life. The wear score function can not only be used...

Optimum scheduling of the HRES for an isolated rural city in Iran

It is necessary to form an energy system in order to deliver the electrical power to a region that delivering energy to them from the national grid is not possible. At the moment, using the hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) is the suggestion of more articles and scientific books because of environmental problems, nearing to the end of fossil fuels, and challenges including unpredictability...

Toward an Optimal Fixed-Priority Algorithm for Energy-Harvesting Real-Time Systems

This paper addresses the real-time xed-priority scheduling problem for battery-powered embedded systems whose energy storage unit is replenished by an environmental energy source. In this context, a scheduling policy should account for incoming energy, capacity of the battery and tasks cost of energy. Thus, classical xed-priority schedulers are no longer suitable for this model. Some algorithms...

Energy-efficient Static Voltage Scheduling Algorithms for Battery-powered DVS Systems

Reducing power or energy consumption to extend battery lifetime of portable systems, decrease chip cooling costs, and increase system reliability become one of the major concerns in today’s embedded system design. Maximizing battery lifetime is difficult due to nonlinearities of charge delivery, especially when the load varies with time. Dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) is a promising technique fo...
